Dr. Evelyn Laureano

Dr. Evelyn Laureano is the Executive Director of Neighborhood Self Help by Older Persons Project, (SHOPP) an organization dedicated to empowering elders of color through advocacy, leadership training and targeted services. Dr. Laureano is a social work administrator and educator, with expertise in strengths-based social work practice with elders of color. She has a distinguished career in gerontology, and has worked in health, mental health, social services and higher education. She also served as a delegate to the 2005 White House Conference on Aging.

Dr. Laureano’s accomplishments include the establishment of one of the first elder abuse programs in the Bronx, and prevention and wellness initiatives to reduce health disparities among elders of color. She is an active member of the Bronx Health REACH Coalition, serves on the Mayor’s Advisory Council to the NYC Department for the Aging, and participates in the New York City Elder Abuse Coalition.

Dr. Laureano received her MSW from Hunter College School of Social Work and her Ph.D from Yeshiva University, Wurzweiler School of Social Work.
